Terms

The deal, without the fog.

These are the terms on which you may use ContextTab. Installing it, or subscribing, means you accept them. They are written to be read.

1. Who you are dealing with

ContextTab (“we”, “us”) supplies the ContextTab browser extension and this website. You can reach us at support@context-tab.com, and the operator's registered name and address are available on request at that address.

2. What Basic is

Basic is free, needs no account and no card, and does not expire. It gives you lineage tracking for up to 30 pages at a time, freezing and thawing, search, every part of the interface, and Markdown and JSON export. We do not promise it forever in a contractual sense — nobody can — but it is not a trial, and there is no point at which it asks you for money to keep working.

3. What Pro is, and how it is billed

Pro removes the 30-page ceiling, merges trees across windows, adds notes with due dates and checklists, AI summaries using an API key you supply, and the extra colour modes.

• It starts with a free trial. Signing in with Google starts it. No card is taken to start a trial, and the trial does not turn into a paid subscription by itself — you have to subscribe.
• It renews automatically. A monthly subscription renews every month and a yearly one renews every year, at the then-current price, charged to the payment method you gave Stripe, until you cancel. This is the part people most dislike finding out later, so: it renews automatically, on its own, without asking again.
• The price is shown before you pay. The exact amount, in your currency and including any tax that applies where you are, is displayed on the Stripe checkout page before you enter any payment details and before anything is charged. Prices may change; a change applies from your next renewal, and we will tell you by email before it does.
• Cancelling is one click, at any time. Settings → Manage billing opens Stripe's own portal, where cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not ask you to write in, phone anyone, or explain yourself.
• Cancelling does not cut you off early. You keep Pro until the end of the period the money bought. After that the account moves to Basic — never back to a trial — and everything that is free keeps working, including everything you have already saved.

4. If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU

You normally have 14 days to withdraw from a contract for digital content or services, without giving a reason. Because a subscription starts working the moment it is paid for, by subscribing you ask us to begin supplying it immediately and you acknowledge that you lose that right of withdrawal once supply has begun and been completed.

Even so: if you subscribe and change your mind within 14 days, write to support@context-tab.com and we will refund you. We would rather have the goodwill than the money, and the free trial exists precisely so that nobody has to buy blind.

5. Refunds otherwise

Outside those 14 days, a subscription is not refundable for part of a period, because cancelling already leaves you with everything the money bought. If something is broken, or you were charged in a way that looks wrong, write to us — a billing mistake gets refunded, and “I was charged for a renewal I did not want and have not used” is one we say yes to. Nothing here limits your legal rights where the goods or service are faulty.

6. Your data

The map of your browsing lives on your own machine and we have no copy of it. What we do hold, if you sign in, is itemised in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. Backing up what is on your machine is your responsibility; Settings has an export for exactly that.

7. AI summaries use your key, and are your business

The AI features send the text you point them at to whichever provider you configured — OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, or a model on your own machine — using an API key you supply and we never see. That request goes from your browser to that provider, not through us. Their terms and their charges apply to it, we cannot see what it contained, and we are not responsible for what the model says back. Do not point it at anything you are not allowed to send to a third party.

8. Fair use

Do not attempt to obtain Pro without paying for it, share one subscription across many people, attack or overload the service, or use ContextTab to break the law. A subscription is for one person. If an account is being used this way we may suspend it; if we do, and you had paid, you get the unused part back.

9. What we promise, and what we do not

We will make a serious effort to keep the service working and to fix what breaks. We cannot promise it is uninterrupted or error-free, that it works on every browser build, or that a browser will not change something out from under it. Nothing in this section limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Subject to that, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

10. Ending it

You may stop using ContextTab at any time by uninstalling it, and cancel a subscription at any time as described above. We may end an account for a serious or repeated breach of section 8, with notice where it is reasonable to give it.

11. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. If a change matters to you — anything about price, billing, or what you get — we will tell subscribers by email before it takes effect, and it will not apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the law of the place where the operator is established, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, nor of your right to bring proceedings there.
